Hi-Rez Studios believes gamers should be able to play with their friends -- and access their content -- regardless of what platform they play on.

SMITE, Paladins, and Realm Royale are currently LIVE with cross-play and cross-progression across PC, Xbox and Switch!

As of 11 September 2019 we have announced that PS4 cross-play compatibility has come to Paladins: Champions of the Realm with its most recent update “Pirate’s Treasure.” It will also come in the next major updates for SMITE: Battleground of the Gods (17 September 2019 with the “Underworld: Odyssey” update) and Realm Royale (early October).

This commitment to cross-play compatible experiences extends to all of our games, including the recently announced Rogue Company, a team-based shooter focusing on high action gameplay that’s launching with PS4, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PC cross-play in 2020.

Below you will find a work-in-progress FAQ that will be updated as needed.

We are incredibly excited to be at the forefront of this great cross-platform movement. As we are among the first developers to offer cross-platform play and progression, we are still defining best practices hand-in-hand with platform providers.

You can now link your accounts here.
The Basics

Q:

When did cross-play and cross-progression go live?

+

Cross-play, cross-progression and cross-commerce for PC, Xbox and Nintendo Switch originally went live in SMITE during the Season 6 Update, in Paladins during the “End Times” Update and in Realm Royale in the OB16 update.

PS4 now supports cross-play in Paladins as of 11 September 2019 and will support it in SMITE on 17 September 2019 and Realm Royale in early October 2019.

Q:

Is cross-platform voice chat supported?

+

Yes! We have added cross-platform voice chat to SMITE, Paladins and Realm Royale alongside our cross-play system.

Q:

How will updates work? Will platforms still be updated separately?

+

No! With crossplay, we are planning to have all platforms update together so each platform will be on the same patch.

Q:

How will this impact the separate PC and Console esports scenes?

+

In 2019 we will continue to support separate and dedicated SMITE and Paladins esports leagues on PC and Console.

Q:

Can I report players on different platforms?

+

You can report players just like you do today, regardless of platform.

Q:

Will you have cross-platform leaderboards?

+

Yes! For cross-play platforms, there will be a global, cross-platform leaderboard.

As players will be able to move freely from across platforms and input methods on a single account, all players will be tracked on the same leaderboard regardless of their main platform or control scheme.

Q:

I have different in-game names on my Console and PC accounts, how will this work when they merge?

+

Your console name will not change and can not be changed on our end.

As soon as you log in to a linked Paladins or SMITE Account on PC for the first time, you will be prompted to choose a new in-game name. Your previous in-game name will be reserved for 30 days so nobody but you can claim it, so you are welcome to continue using the same in-game name as you had before. If you abide by the “new year, new me” philosophy, you are welcome to pick a new username at this time!

In Realm Royale, your in-game name remains the same as your account name on the platform you are playing on.

For Switch players, you will make a Hi-Rez name, but that will not affect your Switch name.

Cross-Play

Q:

What platforms support cross-play?

+

Cross-play is supported across PC launcher, Steam, Discord, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch and will be coming to PS4 on SMITE, Paladins, and Realm Royale according to the schedule above.

Q:

Do I have to create a Hi-Rez Account to cross-play?

+

No! You will be able to play on any platform without first creating a Hi-Rez Account.

Q:

How will you handle cross-platform matchmaking?

+

Matchmaking is constantly being reviewed and optimized to ensure the best experience possible for our players, regardless of input method.

Q:

Can I party or play custom games with my friends on different platforms?

+

Yes!

Note: If you have both controller and keyboard and mouse users in your party, your party will queue for cross-input matchmaking regardless of player preferences. You cannot play ranked matches with cross-input parties.

Q:

Will you support mouse and keyboard on console?

+

Paladins supports mouse and keyboard input on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4. SMITE will be adding KBM support for consoles soon.

Note: You will not be able to shift input method during a match. If you start a match on controller, you will not be allowed to plug in a mouse and keyboard -- or vice versa.

Q:

How do friends lists work?

+

Friends lists are universal, across all platforms. You can add a friend from any platform.

We automatically transferred all of your friends from your primary (most progressed) account into the combined system alongside account linking, but friends from your other account(s) did not automatically transfer. However, you will be able to easily add them back via the “suggested friends” tab!

Q:

How does ranked work with two separate queues in SMITE and Paladins?

+

There are separate leaderboards for each input method. Whichever input you currently have selected will be the rank you are shown and the queue you will enter into.

Q:

What if I sneakily try to start with a controller and then switch to keyboard and mouse mid match?

+

Can’t fool us that easy, we prepared for this. Once you enter a queue on a specific setting, you are stuck with that input for the rest of the match. You will not be able to play the game with the other input until the game is over.

Q:

How will my Ranked progress be handled when I merge accounts?

+

Upon account merge, you will retain the Ranked progress from your account with the highest experience. For example, if you’re Grand Master on Xbox at level 60 and Diamond on PC at level 30, your account will be Grand Master after the merge.

Cross-Progression

Q:

Can I access my purchases and account progression wherever I go?

+

By linking your separate platform accounts to a Hi-Rez Account, you will effectively have one account across PC launcher, Steam (PC), Discord (PC), Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Hi-Rez Studios and Sony are working together to bring cross progression and cross commerce to players looking to connect their accounts across all platforms.

Some platform specific skins (for example ones containing the Xbox logo) may not be available on every platform. Additionally, some items contained in DLC bundles may only be available on the platform where the DLC was purchased, due to platform requirements.

Q:

I play on multiple platforms. How will you treat my separate progress and purchases on different platforms?

+

We have merged your owned content across platform accounts linked with your Hi-Rez Account, in accordance with platform provider policies.

Crystals & Gems owned on PC and Nintendo Switch will be added together and will only be able to be used on those platforms. Xbox Crystals & Gems will be able to be used across all platforms. Going forward, Crystals & Gems purchased on PC & Nintendo Switch will only be able to be used on linked PC and Nintendo Switch accounts. Crystals & Gems purchased on Xbox will be able to be used across all platforms. PS4 currency is currently a closed system.

We know that’s a little confusing, so check out this helpful diagram:

Q:

I bought the same thing on multiple different platforms. Will I get a refund when accounts are merged?

+

No. Given the myriad different ways players can acquire content in our games (free Gems and Crystals, gifts, chest rolls, direct purchase, sales, etc.), we could not accurately determine how to credit players.

Q:

Do I have to create a Hi-Rez Account to access cross-progression?

+

Yes. Your content will only be available across platform accounts that are linked with your Hi-Rez Account.

Q:

Can I link multiple accounts?

+

You can only link one account per type to a Hi-Rez Account. For example, you can link a Microsoft Account and a Steam Account to a Hi-Rez Account, but you may not link two Steam Accounts to a Hi-Rez Account.

Q:

Can I unlink accounts?

+

Yes. However: If you unlink an account after it has been merged, all progress and purchases will be removed from that account, and it will essentially become a new, level 1 account.

Only one external account per platform can be linked to one Hi-Rez Account. Unlinking your external account will result in a permanent break and you will not be able to link an additional external account from the same platform.

Q:

How do levels work if I have progression on more than one account?

+

Account XP has been added together from all your accounts. For SMITE, the account that has the highest level across all of your accounts will be your new primary account where all of your content will merge into; your experience across all accounts is combined into this account.
